Avengers Week: Deadpool Edition

No, Deadpool isn’t going to be a part of the second most ambitious crossover event ever. But this is the endgame, and some of our favorite heroes won’t make it out alive. The writers make their bets on who will join the deadpool in today’s edition of Avengers Week.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Avengers Infinity War and potential spoilers for Avengers: Endgame. However, only one of us is smart, so most of these conjectures will likely never materialize.

There was an idea … to bring together a group of remarkable people … to turn the biggest movie event in history into another opportunity for degenerate gambling.

Yes, world, I created a prop bet for Avengers: Infinity War last year. Along with twenty or so other friends, we bet on a variety of Avengers related questions, much like the one’s featured in the Crystal Ball edition of Avengers Week. Sample questions included “How does Stan Lee appear?” and “Where is the Soul Stone?”, among others. The biggest hit of the pool, however, was the Deadpool.

How does this work?

As explained by Weasel (portrayed by an actor we do not support) in the film Deadpool, a Deadpool is a way for horrible people to bet on who is going to die in the world of mercenaries and evildoers.

But Endgame is a film, and since many of the heroes suffering from expiring contracts or growing irrelevance are expected to die, we’ve decided a Deadpool is a fun way to send off our favorite heroes.

The UNPLUGG’D writers were each allowed to select three characters (with picks being nonexclusive) they believe won’t survive endgame, with the object of the game being to score the most points. Characters are denoted with a point value based on how likely we believe they are to die in the upcoming film, with high-risk characters worth less points. So choose wisely.

Because there was great confusion last year over who was actually dead post-Snappening, characters are considered “dead” if they are no longer alive in the main timeline/dimension at the end of this film. If any wonky stuff like that arises, we’ll burn that bridge when we get there. Snapped away or previously dead characters are not available in the pool.

The point values are featured below.

The Avengers Deadpool

Captain America: 1 point

Thanos: 1 point

Iron Man: 2 points

Thor: 2 points

Hulk: 2 points

War Machine: 3 points

Nebula: 3 points

Black Widow: 4 points

Hawkeye: 4 points

Ant-Man: 4 points

Rocket: 4 points

Shuri: 5 points

M’Baku: 5 points

Okoye: 5 points

Pepper Potts: 6 points

Captain Marvel: 6 points

Wong: 6 points

Our Picks

First, here’s who we picked:

NGL: Captain America, Nebula, and War Machine.

Here’s what Nate had to say about Cap in our article from Monday:

In the end, I think the whole team figures out that Pepper is pregnant, and Cap (in the most Cap move ever) takes a bullet to save Tony in an effort to make up for the splitting effects of Civil War. With his remaining fortune, Tony erects a memorial for Cap and disappears from the public view to raise his kid and retire as Iron Man.

JGL: Nebula, Hulk, and Thanos.

Some consistency in terms of Nebula. It seems likely given her overall relevance to the MCU and how much of it is tied to Thanos’ arc. Hulk may not be a common pick, but there’s a real possibility that this is the last time we see Mark Ruffalo’s take on the big green fella.

Your Picks

Of course, we opened this up to you, the fans, too! Here were some of the picks that stood out:

  • 6 picked Thanos to exit from the MCU altogether.
  • 4 picked Iron Man to bite the dust.
  • Only 1 person picked Captain America to wield the shield for the last time.

Keep up with us on Twitter to see who ends up winning the Deadpool (and, ultimately, a free UNPLUGG’D t-shirt!

Only one more day until the Endgame! Keep up with UNPLUGG’D as we continue to cover what should amount to one of the greatest moments in pop culture history.
