Where Ya Been @ Pete & Pete?

Us 30-somethings can probably trace our weirdness to the crazy stuff that Nickelodeon and The Cartoon Network was putting out back in them ’90s. Nothing was more surreal than The Adventures of Pete & Pete on the former. It was like Kafka for kids.

A children's show based on two wise red headed brothers (big Pete, played by Mike Maronna, and little Pete, played by Danny Tamberelli), set in the fictional town of Wellsville (probably fictionalized version of the real Wellsville, NY), Pete & Pete showed us the oddity of the mundane. The brother’s interactions with parents, neighbors, bullies, and the local superheroes and ice cream men amuse and inspire rebellion.

The Adventures of Pete & Pete began on Nickelodeon in 1989, as minute-long shorts that were showed as a kind of filler between shows. The shorts were so dope, a five ep miniseries was produced in ‘91. That was even more fire, so Stick Stickly was like “bring me more of these ginger fleshbags” and ordered almost two more seasons, which dropped in ’93 and ran until ‘96.

Wipe that look of your face, mail boy.

If none of this is ringing a bell, go see your doctor to see if that last concussion you got on the county gridiron in ’04 left lasting damage. But first, get yourself acquainted with the below video:

So yeah…we 80’s babies loved those bros like brothers.

…But what have they been up to since?

Since the show ended, you may remember Danny Tamberelli as active on the SNICK set with appearances on All That, Figure It Out and even a cameo on Space Cases. He also had some roles in The Mighty Ducks and Igby Goes Down on the big screen. Throw some voice work, improv, music gigs with his band Jounce, and commercials in there, and this guy hopefully put away a nest egg to be proud of.

Mike Maronna‘s career has been a little more sparse, but still a real solid resume here. He played Jeff McCallister in Home Alone 1 & 2, and appeared in the films Slackers & 40 Days and 40 Nights, not to mention a few music videos. He had that Ameritrade commercial series and got to meet Bill Clinton because of it.

Better times may be ahead for the duo! It looks like they’ve recently teamed up again to do some sort of monthly podcast show called The Adventures of Danny & Mike. We haven’t checked it out, but we trust their body of work. YOU should check it out and let us know how it is. I hope to glory that the April Fools Edition appropriates the Pete & Pete moniker. Please?

P.S. Mike “Big Pete” Maronna is very fond of his feline friends. Adopt or foster an animal today!
