It’s refreshing to hear some sampled production over trap production after a while. Pusha T’s new tape DAYTONA is finally out, and we’ve been waiting 3 years for new music. The 20 minute length is perfect for leaving out nothing but quality tracks. This is an interesting choice by Kanye since he did the exact opposite with Life Of Pablo. Kanye released 15+ songs and frequently updated the actual tracks by making use of the variable nature of streaming. This time around he’s releasing multiple short and high quality tapes. It’s working because I’ve switched thee times from listening to A$AP’s new album, which released the same day. Long albums are a drag.

Pusha’s rap delivery is equally tight as the production. He’s always had good songs that get bogged down by awkward hooks, but this album has none of it. His flow is much more smoother. In fact the flow in Come Back Baby sounds exactly like Niki Minaj’s new song Chun Li, except Pusha delivers better.

Notable verses are Kanye being Kanye:

Pusha : they talkin shit Ye, how do you respond?
YE: POOP SCOOP WHOOP WHOOPTY WHOOP
— What Would Meek Do

Pusha sharing his obsession with cooking:

Oven’s full of cakes that he bakes, still spreading paste…
This fire burns hot as Hell’s Kitchen…
Season my sauce like Zatarain’s…
Welcome all beef, then heat ’em with flat irons…
I’m the king of the oven-ware…

Pusha calling out both Offset and Drake:

Had to find other ways to invest
’Cause you rappers found every way to ruin Pateks
— Offset seen crying somewhere

How could you ever right these wrongs
When you don’t even write your songs
— Drake about to release his inner scorpion

Overall this tape is something you don’t wanna miss. Take a listen and be prepared for more heat dropping in the following weeks. It’s YEEZY season.
