Several Twitter accounts were permanently suspended this week for violating Community Guidelines. Bloggers Thomas Jefferson, George Mason, Ben Franklin, George Washington, and James Madison are examples. Twitter stated that the specific violation for each of these suspensions is that they were “condoning violence”.

George Mason was banned from both Twitter and Facebook for a post saying Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, and that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Independent Fact Checkers determined the post lacked context, and Anonymous Sources debunked his arguments.

Thomas Jefferson was suspended from Twitter for three Tweets this week, according to Twitter’s notification. Jefferson stated in an interview that he suspects several previous tweets were contributing factors, such as two he received temporary account suspensions and warnings for. One was a tweet in which he wrote that the people have inalienable rights inherent in their nature, and claimed that rights are not granted by the government. The second was a claim that individual States should nullify unconstitutional Federal legislation, tweeting “Where powers are assumed which have not been delegated, a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy”. Twitter deleted both of these tweets last year for violating their Community Guidelines.

The three tweets Jefferson’s account was permanently suspended for last week are quoted below. Thomas screen captured the tweets when posting. He said he suspected Twitter would delete them, but that he wanted to make the points anyway. The screen captures were provided to this reporter with permission to make them public.

Caution is recommended expressing these points of view on many online platforms, for those who wish their account remain active. Following Community Guidelines is recommended. Quoting them here is for the reader’s reference only.

1) On 1/6/21 Jefferson tweeted “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”.

2) On 1/7/21 Jefferson tweeted “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government”. Thomas got a warning for this from Twitter for “promotion of violence”, the tweet was removed, and retweets blocked.

3) On 1/8/21 Jefferson tweeted a claim about the Federal government, saying it has “erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.” Jefferson’s account was permanently suspended following this tweet.

Several other bloggers were also permanently suspended by Twitter in recent weeks. James Madison was banned from the platform for tweeting that States “are duty bound to interpose” unconstitutional Federal legislation. Ben Franklin was banned from most social media platforms for starting an alternate media newspaper he published himself out of his home in Philadelphia. George Washington was suspended for using Twitter to organize a protest against the government in Trenton, NJ. The pseudonym Twitter accounts for everyone who wrote in the Federalist Papers were suspended and all their previous tweets removed.

Several of these radical extremists have been placed on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) Antigovernment Extremist list. They are part of an underground group who call themselves the sic “Continental Congress”, discovered to be regularly meeting at City Tavern in Philadelphia discussing secession. Last year the Continental Congress was added to the SPLC Hate Group list, and City Tavern was permanently closed.
