The UnSchool Emerging Leaders Fellowship alumni community is filled with incredible, boundary pushing change-agents, working in diverse and divergent ways around the world. In this series we checked back in with a few alumni who joined us on our June, São Paulo 2016 adventure.
Meet 25 year old Matheus Pinheiro de Oliveira e Silva, Born in Jundiai, a city with 400 thousand people near São Paulo, Brazil where he currently resides.
What do you do?
Currently I am a researcher and consultant of a national programin my city. My job is to support a portfolio of 40 Small and medium enterprises, suggesting them management and innovation tools to develop their operations and increase their income.
I am also the founder and facilitator of Meraki Group, a social business which aims to develop a critical thinking through activities whose main approach are self knowledge, collaboration and empathy, to young people from 15 to 20 years old.
Why did you come to the UnSchool?
I was tired to continue my learning experience in formal education, só that I find out Unschool, a interesting way to learn differently, wtih approaching topics that I love the most: sustainability, design and system thinking.
What did you get out of it?
Unschool masterclass taught me how to blow up my ideas into small pieces, and like a puzzle, start to think in different perspectives, creating new connections, until create a puzzle more robust and with more interactions than before.
What are you working on now?
Nowadays I am looking for partners locally and abroad to deliver my social business content in senior high schools and universities, as well in companies.
Moreover, I am also developing a project which I founded with 22 people from 14 countries, in a global program, an organization called LAIRN (http://lairn.org/) that aims to create a life-skills education program that can be delivered through radio in remote and poor areas in Pakistan and India. Using radio waves to teach kids value education will bridge the gap between traditional approaches of learning and low literacy rate.
