Like every month, we at UnscrewMe also ventured out in March to share some great places that offer tasty wines in London. Mostly, we focus on new openings, however, this time we present three places that are not exactly new, yet definitely worth a visit or two!

Terroirs, Covent Garden, WC2

  • Name: Terroirs Wine Bar
  • Location: WC2, Covent Garden. Just off Trafalgar Square, Terroir is a great little place for a glass of wine or two in the very centre of London.
  • Background: Terroirs is like a London institution, yet it took us so long to finally have a glass of wine there. Often, Terroirs is very busy, so it can be hard to get a table without booking in advance or waiting.
Terroirs is all about natural wine and offers a good selection by the glass, with something for everyone.
  • Wine Picks:
2017 Grüner Veltliner handcrafted by Martin & Anna Arndorfer from Kamptal in Austria 🇦🇹 . Of course, a natural wine, unfined, unfiltered. An interesting Grüner Veltliner, showing a slightly different side of this delicious grape variety.
  • Tastings: Unfortunately, we believe there are no regular tastings, but occasionally they do events.

Exmouth Market Grind, Clerkenwell, EC1

  • Name: Exmouth Market Grind
  • Location: EC1, Clerkenwell. One of the many great restaurants and bars around Exmouth Market.
  • Background: Grind is not really much of a specialist wine bar, but a lovely space and they do have wines. I stopped by the branch on Exmouth Market for a quick glass before visiting a friend nearby for dinner.
Grind started off as a coffee shop in Shoreditch, which turned into a cocktail bar in the evenings, and since then expanded by opening more branches and also broadening its menus. Since they do not focus on wine at all, I can forgive that the selection by the glass is rather short.
(Full disclosure: As a small crowd investor, I joined two crowdfunding campaigns of Grind on Crowdcube.)
  • Wine Picks:
    Molino Loco Macabeo by
Bodegas Castaño from the Murcia province in Spain 🇪🇸 . A refreshing white wine with good acidity and full of fruit flavours, lots of citrus fruits like lemon and lime and even a hint of apple as well as stone fruits.
  • Tastings: No tastings to our knowledge, and they probably won’t start doing wine tastings any time soon.

Trufflesecco, Camden, NW1

  • Name: Trufflesecco
  • Location: NW1, Camden. On Camden High Street not too far from King’s Cross or Fitzrovia and not too close to Camden Market.
  • Background: Years ago, when Trufflesecco just opened, I was there once. Then again recently after an excellent jazz concert at King’s Place, I paid another visit to Trufflesecco to end the evening with some sparkle 🍾.
If you like the smell of truffle, this place is perfect for you. And they have a pretty decent wine list.
  • Wine Picks:
Prosecco Extra Dry, Veneto in Italy 🇮🇹. Unfortunately, I forgot to write down all the details, but it was a pleasant, pretty standard Prosecco, unremarkable yet enjoyable.
  • Tastings: Boasting a broad range of wines, you can easily do your own little tasting, but there are no regular wine events.

Sharing is Caring

We’re always happy to hear about new restaurants with great wine lists, newly opened wine bars in London or just a nice wine you discovered recently.

If you have any recommendations, please let us know! Either comment on here or get in touch via social media through Twitter @unscrewmeapp, Facebook UnscrewMe or Instagram @unscrewmeapp.

In our next posts we will reveal our monthly wine highlights for March, this time it will be all about Urban Wineries in London, and then we will give a brief overview of all the events on UnscrewMe in April.

(Sadly, this will be the last article we partly wrote at Curators Coffee Gallery in Fitzrovia, since the branch closed down a few weeks ago. As usual, we worked a bit at Kaffeine, Clerkenwell Grind and this time also at Sourced Market in Marylebone.)
