Chapter 22 of the gospel of Matthew begins with Jesus speaking a parable to describe the kingdom of heaven from one aspect. That is, to a king arranging a marriage for his son.

As we read this account, we find that it only describes the king’s intent and his preparation for his son’s wedding feast. It tells short of the actual feast or banquet and even the wedding itself.

Since this parable relates to the kingdom of heaven, we can deduce that the king refers to God, the possessor of heaven and earth, and the son is Jesus Christ, the heir Himself.

God was their King

The prophet Samuel also tells us that before God’s people Israel had a human king, God was their true king. 1 Samuel chapter 8, verses 4–7 and 12 narrate how Israel rejected God by asking for another king.
