Diamonds & Glass
Some people are diamonds, to be placed on velvet, admired and treasured.
Others are glass, useful, functional but ultimately thrown to the floor and shattered.
There are a lot of people in the world and we all glitter and we all glow, each in our own special way. Some people will treat you like you’re glass and some people will treat you like you’re a diamond.
Now I bet you think that I’m about to say that you should only be around people who think you’re a diamond?
You’d. Be. Wrong.
We need the people who think we’re glass. They inspire us, they drive us. People who treat us like glass know we have value, but they don’t glorify us. Sometimes they treat us badly and sometimes they treasure us. But while it can hurt, we can end up learning more about ourselves from the way they treat us and our responses.
The people who treat us like diamonds are great. They reaffirm our self belief, and we should treasure them. Trust me, they will be few and far between. They think we’re are perfect, and sometimes we need people in our corner to give us the confidence to shine. To make us believe that we can do anything.
But if you are perfect then you don’t need to change and if you don’t change you don’t grow. And sometimes you need people who don’t believe in you to challenge you. Sometimes your success is just a way to prove them wrong.
So to all the people who think I’m glass, thank you for trying to break me and shatter me. You’ve only made me a prettier picture.
