Tell us about yourself

As long as I can remember, I have always had a fascination for people and how they live. This fascination then morphed into people watching, which invariably opened me up to the business of street photography.

My work is inspired mostly by Saul Leiter. I have come to realise that his use of abstraction, light and colour, has had a massive influence on how I see the world. The works of Ernst Haas, Fred Herzog and Marvin E Newman also inspires me.

Recently, I began experimenting with shooting film on an old Nikon 35mm camera. I am currently on that journey exploring colour techniques used in film processing and looking at how I can incorporate that into a my digital photography work.

Shooting on

I used to own a Canon 5D and loved it, until I came across the Fuji X series and have not looked back ever since, one day I hope to own a Leica, so if anyone from Leica is reading this…. hook a brother up! :)

Inspired by

Most of my work, in fact I would say 85% of my work is inspired by the works of Saul Leiter. His love for abstraction and expressionism really strikes a chord with me, not really sure why. But i find his influence really permeates the way I frame my shots. Modern photographers for me would have to be Josh Jackson and Sixstreetsunder (Craig Whitehead) for their ability to continuously deliver a body of work that is truly inspiring.

What do you love about living in Hertforshire?

I love the peace and tranquility of the country side, but also that its quite close to london. So I get the best of both worlds, I could be enjoying the hustle and bustle of London’s China town one minute and the chilling to the sounds of cows and sheep the next.

Favourite spot to shoot in Hertforshire

As most of my work involves shooting in urban or city backdrops, theres not that much to photograph where I live. However, I have set myself a challenge to do a mini project on the people of Letchworth.

Future Plans

I am really excited about a trip to New York in April. Ever since I got into street photography, I have always wanted to shoot in New York, purely because most of the scenes that inspire me are shot there, but also because in many respects, it is very similar to London, so I am very interested to see what I get. I am also working on my first book. which I hope to launch before the end of the year.
