Our second local photowalk w/ Unsplash

Hi, I’m Antonio, with Luca Bravo (an Unsplash Ambassador) and Cristina Gottardi we organized the 2nd photowalk dedicated to the Unsplash italian local community.

We met in the morning near the train station of Venice, all people coming from different parts of the north of Italy and beyond. Some people already knew each other, some new friends and passionate photographers met togheter. 1st funny thing, the multi-level parking man (owner?) told us

hey, why don’t you go on top of the parking’s building, that’s the most high and beatiful sight-seeing of Venice…

Straightforward, isn’t it? Good opportunity, but we preferred to consume our feet and discover places being deeply into them. Maybe next time, who knows? :-)

2nd funny thing, the same parking man, apparently traveled more than all us summed together, plus he had the amount of cameras and lenses that a normal person can have in more than 2 lives. Maybe he’ll join us next time.

Some of the participants were from Venice or had previously seen it lot of times, so we followed their good knowledge of the city and its paths, walking through main venues and hidden gems too, discovering beautiful and hidden views you can only find moving on your feet.

Walking through the city was a big opportunity, not only for taking photos, and talking about what to shot and how but it was good for knowing each-other too. We followed a less touristic approach traversing the city, going by our feet (and what else?), splitting in small groups and joining again other people depending on which interesting places and things we noticed around us. Then we reached the Ebraic zone, self-contained and well delimited historic zone full of memories.

We used the boat to reach Burano, one of the islands and small communities around Venice, famous for it’s typical houses with terrific and so particular bright colors. A puzzle that stimulates eyes and soul with it’s perfect balanced connection and embracing relationship with the nature around and the canals thats sign it’s paths between houses and places.

The days before the photowalk we discovered we could go to the Fondaco dei Tedeschi mall rooftop for free just for taking some pictures and enjoy the view. So we booked a time-slot and took that chance: for 20 minutes we had the opportunity to take photos of one of the most beautiful sightseeing of Venice from a very particular and wide-open high position just before the sunset. Golden hour is coming!

In the evening we went to the classical Piazza San Marco and took shoots of it, we had to :-) But we walked thought it’s surroundings and on the bridges around too.

At the end of the day, with almost all the people, we had a great and friendly dinner before coming home. Sharing ideas and thoughts with good drinking in front us was good and friendly. Without the movement made during the day to reach all the places we wanted to see, we had time to discover technics used by everyone, stories for past experiences, different and sometimes complementary ideas everyone has about all sorts of photography. Different gears, DSLRs, Leicas, mirrorless, fixed optics and mega-zooms, all sort of camera lenses but all used with the same passion.

Here’s a collection of some of the photos taken during the photowalk

Here’s a list of people in the group: Luca, Cristina, Federico G., Antonio (me), Filippo, Alessandro, Antonella, Francesco, Riccardo, Federico B., Vanessa and many others…

Thank you to all the people of the Unsplash community, the Unsplash team for this opportunity and his support and a special thank to Annie Spratt, the link for all the people in the local communities.
