I really enjoy taking a ride across Slovenia. Just me and my camera. Sometimes I get lucky and find secret spots here or a few steps across the border. This photo is taken at “Laghi di Fusine” in Italy, quite hidden spots of the best that nature can provide.

I absolutely love to take pictures around sunset, but this time, I decided to get up before the sun even rose. I found this magical field of fog and wildflowers that in the 60s, used to be a drive in theater in Lincoln, RI. After a couple decades, it was permanently closed, and the land was completely restored for ecological reasons. 3.6 acres of trees and open water habitat and 3.4 acres of shrub and forested swamp replaced the asphalt paved drive-in. Such a cool history!

The hike up Saddle Mountain was nothing short of amazing. The breath taking view reminded me of how incredibly insignificant we are in comparison to the vast universe. If you’re having a bad day, just drink some coffee and think about the size of the world.

This shot was taken during a roadtrip through the US. While we were staying at the Yosemite Lakes Lodge near the National Park the nights became incredibly dark and serene. Near the California State Route 120 there was simply nothing but this lit Texaco gas station surrounded by utter darkness.
About the photographer: Maarten van den Heuvel is 27 years old and moving from Utrecht, The Netherlands to Toronto in October.
This photo was taken at Jackson Street Bridge in Atlanta, Ga. I had taken a similar long-exposure at this location several months ago. However, I was never quite satisfied with the result. It was dull and not very exciting to look at. So I decided to go back and try again, using some different techniques. I used a wider aperture and faster shutter speed, waited until the sky was fairly dark, lowered the temperature in post, etc. Because of the changes I made, the resulting photo turned out to be sharper, the colors were more pronounced, the light trails were not as clustered and the photo as a whole looks more “futuristic.” Whenever I see this photo, it makes me want to move to a city.
