Ashes

This fiery affair ended abruptly.

He tried to extinguish it & ran away to avoid
seeing the aftermath.

All that was left were the charred pieces of
a relationship.

I dusted myself off, knowing damn well
That I would be the one blamed
for those ashes, the remains.

The ashes flew, scattering in the
wind in all directions.
I took a deep breath,
fresh air hit my lungs.
I remembered who I was:
Not a simple ember,
but a woman with a raging fire inside.

That’s when I knew:
This wasn’t love.
And I deserved better.
