Fire

Our love was explosive,
Passionate.
Until we shed off our skin
Exposing our deepest, truest selves
Raw, fragile.
One overtly emotional.
The other insane yet logical.

I fell for your vulnerable side
Because it was then that you were
Like a sweet child.
I didn’t fall for the “animal” whose fuel
Ignited my senses

That fuel clashed to replace
The fire in my blood.

It ended up scorching us both.
Instead of nurturing what was coursing
Through my veins

You sought to subdue it and alter its essence.
If you didn’t want to change another being
Made of darkness,
Why would you want to change me?

But the thing is:
You can’t control fire.
