Aryabhatta

Aryabhatta is known as the father of Indian Mathematics and was also a renowned astronomer and mathematician of ancient India. Aryabhatta was born in 476 CE in Patliputra, however, the birthplace is not confirmed.

His contribution is immensely inspiring. He discovered many components of mathematics. He used Vedic ways to solve mathematical problems.
Arybhatta explored algebra, arithmetic, plain and spherical trigonometry. He also concluded the value of pi up to 2 decimal places. He used zero in the coefficients to solve problems.

Arybhatta established his works and ideas in astronomical discoveries as well. He explained lunar and solar eclipses in terms of shadows falling on the Earth. He calculated the time taken by the earth for rotation which was 23 hours 56 minutes.

His works have been published under the title of Aryabhattiya and Arya Siddhanta. Aryabhattiya is divided into four parts namely Gitikapada, Ganitapada, Kalakriyapada, and Golapada.

Aryabhattiya and its division

Gitikapada — describes discoveries about planetary and time computations
Ganitapada — describes inventions in mathematics for astrophysical computations
Kalakriyapada — describes discoveries about planetary positions and motions
Golapada — describes inventions in geometric and trigonometric concepts

We can proudly share that India’s first satellite, launched on 19th Apr 1975 and developed by ISRO, was named after him. Today’s generation is not completely aware of Aryabhatta’s phenomenal work, and exceptional ideas. We are in awe of his flair and accomplishments.
