Religion has always been one of humanity’s most curious phenomena. From ideas from pious and ascetic individuals who deprive themselves of the earthly pleasures of sex, such as priests and nuns, to the cultures of the distant past who practice the more bizarre rituals, like orgiastic sex orgies in the name of fertility gods and goddesses, the worlds of sex and religion have virtually always been linked, with little exception. Practically the only religious movements which lacked sex were the ones composed on one sex entirely, and those typically didn’t make it very far for obvious reasons.

The world’s first form of pornography, covered in-depth here, known as Venus of Willendorf, was a fertility statue that dates back to nearly 30,000 years ago, and it is that of a woman with large, voluptuous breasts, an indescript face, and a round, full body. Venus of Willendorf was one of many fertility statues that date back to around this time period, and many of these statues are thought to have been broken during massive festivals where orgies would take place, meaning that sex orgies date to at least around 30,000 years ago.
