We have student representatives across all three years who are there to act as your voice on our journalism courses.

You can meet them below and get into contact to make suggestions or raise any issues.

We are still after more representatives. If you would like to become a course rep on our BA Hons Journalism or BA Hons Journalism with Media Studies, please get in touch with your year tutors (Level 4 — paul.foster@port.ac.uk; Level 5 — catharine.russell@port.ac.uk; Level 6 — claire.perry@port.ac.uk)

Level 4

Mercedes Fearon-Cesar — course rep for BA Hons Journalism with Media

Contact: up887559@myport.ac.uk

I am currently carrying out my first year of Journalism and Media Studies. In my spare time, I enjoy doing exercise and love playing around with make-up or cooking something new whenever I am feeling creative.

One of the main reasons that drew me to the role of course rep was the responsibility it entails, especially being able to share and voice ideas from all angles.

Taking on a role like this will allow me to obtain new skills as well as working on skills that I already have. I have always been interested in finding ways to make pre-existing matters more enjoyable in various environments and feel like this is a great place to start.

I am looking forward to collaborating with other course reps and members and will make it a top priority to relay messages as well as suggesting and implementing ideas that can be taken into consideration.

Betsy Whiston — course rep for BA Hons Journalism

Contact: up2025166@myport.co.uk or message her on Instagram @betsy.whiston

Hi. I’ll be your student rep for Journalism. This will entail me helping you with any queries, signposting you to other sources of support and feeding back any issues to our course staff.

All of this will ensure you have the best possible learning experience at Portsmouth and I hope you feel you will have someone you can talk to easily and freely. Covid-19 has, in a way, separated us as a community and made this new chapter of your life just that much harder. I want to be able to help us all connect and make the best of these challenging times.

If I can help you in any way to feel more comfortable & at ease, then I feel i’ve fulfilled my job role.
