This year’s NCTJ Shorthand results for UoP students have been outstanding. Our 2nd Year students have achieved a 100% pass rate in their NCTJ Shorthand examinations, with 15 out of 17 students gaining the magic 100wpm+ ‘Gold Standard’. Of these, 1 student also achieved a pass at 110wpm and 4 achieved passes at 120wpm. Of the 8 students, from 8 centres across the UK who passed the 120wpm at the 2nd June 2017 sitting, 4 were journalism students at the University of Portsmouth. These results are truly exceptional and the Journalism Team and in particular, their lecturer, Gill Wray, is absolutely delighted that their hard work and dedication has paid off.

Kieran Bell, one of the successful 120wpm candidates said, “ ‘When I first started shorthand as a journalism student, doubt began to get the better of me and I thought it would be something I would never be able to do. I would never have imagined I’d pass the 60wpm exam at the end of the first year, let alone the the 120wpm a year later. Thanks to Gill’s hard work and dedication, myself and so many others achieved the speed we were working towards. It goes to show that hard work and practice really does pay off. It’s been difficult, but worth it in the end.”
