Lack of manpower is one of the greatest issues Tulong Kabataan — UP Diliman (TK UPD), with the help of the UP Diliman University Student Council, is facing as it organizes its initiative for those who were affected by typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.

TK UPD aims to cover Marikina, Rizal, Cagayan, and the Bicol region as a portion of the donations will be given to UP Harong, UP Ibalon, and UP Lawod’s initiative in their respective areas in Bicol. However, with limited manpower brought by “existing circumstances,” their students on campus can only reach Marikina and Rizal.

“We cannot fully mobilize the people since some do not have the means to go to the area while others were also devastated by the typhoon,” TK UPD said.

TK UPD is coordinating with provincial organizations to extend its help to hard-to-reach communities. They are also in contact with volunteers from Cagayan so they can provide relief.

More than helping in the financial and logistical aspects of the community, TK UPD emphasized the role of every Iskolar ng Bayan to spearhead and organize initiatives that would help communities in need.

“As the country experienced one of the most devastating typhoons in its entire history, several communities suffered in terms of difficulties with signal and connection; thus, relief operations like this will help in reporting their current conditions in an effort to amplify their demands to the authorities,” TK UPD stated, adding that we should also stand together with the victims towards the process of rehabilitation and moving forward.

On behalf of their beneficiaries, collaborators, and partners, TK UPD expressed their gratitude to everyone who offered their help to make the initiative possible. They are also encouraging everyone to continue supporting other relief operations, donation drives, and information dissemination activities.

“In times like these, when the government fails to heed our calls in providing even our most basic needs, having empathy and compassion to help those in need will definitely go a long way, provided that we also have the courage to seek accountability and continue mobilizing for the collective betterment of the people,” TK UPD said.
