Workers of the condiment giant NutriAsia are in urgent need of supporters at the Marilao factory in Bulacan ahead of a potential dispersal.

As of writing, about 30 workers are left to hold ground and face thickening police and security lines, which demonstrators suspect as preparation for another violent dispersal.

Around 300 police and 100 security personnel guarded the factory gates last Friday, July 27, dwarfing protesters’ numbers in a ratio of about 10 to 1.

NutriAsia trucks also gained passage to the factory then due to the small number of protesting workers. Earlier today, the workers’ makeshift outpost was reportedly taken apart by police forces.

NutriAsia workers have mounted a picket since June 2, protesting against unjust working conditions, contractualization and low salary. They continue to strike while NutriAsia is yet to comply with the Labor department’s order to regularize its workers.

Tomorrow, July 30, the workers will hold a general assembly and proceed to have negotiations with Labor. A multisectoral protest program starting at around 1PM will be held before the talks.
