saddarSanam — verse 23

na vakti dEhO’hamiti prasuptau
na kOpi nAbhUvamiti pravakti
yatrOditE sarvam udEti tasya
dhiyA-ahamH SOdhaya janmadESam

body does not say “I am”; In deep sleep
no one experience or say “I do not exist”
by its rising everything rises, this mind-self’s
birth place is to be searched and cleansed

Body is not conscious by nature. It will never say, this “I am”. While in deep sleep the mind is absent, no one say that “I do not exist”. In between the body and mind there is a ego-sense i.e., a mind-self or ahamkAra that holds the notion of “I am”. When this rises, the whole world rises. One should search with sharp intellect the source of this mind-self. “SOdhaya” means to find and also to cleanse or purify!
