saddarSanam — verse 24

dEhO na jAnAti satO na janma 
dEha pramANO’nya udEti madhyE 
ahamkRti-granthi-nibandha-sUksma
SarIra-cEtO-bhava-jIva nAmAH

body is non-conscious; existence has no birth
with the measure of body rises in the middle;
ego, knot of matter and spirit, bondage, subtle
body, mind, bhava and jeeva - of these names it is called.

bhava means the world, jeeva means the individual being. This world view and individual are mixture of matter and spirit. Body belongs to the matter. It has no consciousness at any time. The spirit is ever existing. So, it has no birth.

In between the matter and spirit there rises some thing which is called ahamkAra i.e, ego; granthi - the knot between matter and spirit; nibandha - bondage; sUksham SarIra - subtle body; cEtaH - mind or the limited consciousness, bhava the world view and jeeva the individual being; All these are the names of the same thing - the limited confusion!!
