tanmaya nishTha — firm absorption in Self

being is knowing; to be is to know.

Having resolved the realization of god in self in last post, now another philosophical complexity between being and knowing is dealt with.

Is the knowledge of a thing ever be different from the thing in itself? knowing self (Atma darSanam) and being self (Atma samsthiti) could result in inhearent duality of self.

To resolve this verse 26th of upadesa saram states (in Telugu)

tAnugAnunikiyE tanneRunguTara tAnu renDekkaDa tanmaya nishTha

Same in Sanskrit

Atma samsthitiH svAtma darSanam Atma nirdvyAt Atam nishThatA

The very being the Self is verily knowing the Self. There is no duality in Atma or Self. The state of absolute absorption (tanmaya-nishTha) of nondual being-knowing is the truth itself.

The tanmaya-nishTha is not something that comes or goes. A glimpse of it is seen by various yogic practices leading to the samadhi. A natural effortless samadhi is the tanmaya nishTha also referred as sahaja-samadhi. Bhagavan RamaNa lived a life demonstrating this fact. This verse is a sample of overflowing anubhUti (experience) of maharshi.
