No Wi-Fi, no worries 😏
Trail now works offline
We’re always looking for ways to help out busy teams. Until now, bad Wi-Fi meant big problems. So we set out to change that 🚀
Trail is a web-based app. It can be accessed from any device and there’s nothing to install. Perfect for fast-paced industries where staff come and go. Less perfect where Wi-Fi is spotty, temperamental or non-existent in places… until now 🙌
Sites can now complete tasks as normal whatever the state of the Wi-Fi. Offline mode will kick-in automatically, changes will be saved to the device and sync up when reconnected to the internet.
Sites will still need to connect at least once a day to get their latest tasks and sync changes for accurate reports. For full details of what it means for your teams, check out our help centre article.
A common problem 😨
There are over 180 million Instagram posts tagged #foodporn. So it comes as no surprise that guest Wi-Fi is a common fixture in our industry.
Sadly, the same level of connectivity cannot be said for back of house.
Kitchens full of signal absorbing steel and venues spanning multiple floors mean Wi-Fi dead zones are often unavoidable 😱
From speaking to the teams who use Trail, a common theme emerged: poor Wi-Fi was causing major frustrations.
Now for the nerdy bit 🤓
Recent tech advancements have meant a whole new era of apps is upon us. Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) run in a web browser but offer an experience just like those from an app store.
These apps have been around for a few years but are only recently taking off. They’ve been adopted by companies like UBER, Google, Twitter, Instagram and now Trail.
Progressive Web Apps are the best of both worlds: all the benefits of apps with nothing to download.
PWAs use service workers to offer features that were previously reserved for native apps. This is a game changer for websites.
For Trail, this means an offline mode. In future it could mean push notifications, instant loading, geofencing and more.
