We are looking for a dynamic and eager journalist to work in our London newsroom as a junior mobile editor. Do you fit the bill?

Mobile Editor, UK (January 2017 start)

Your Profile

  • You may be new to journalism, but ideally will have some experience of writing news in a fast-paced online environment
  • Excellent proofreading skills and an ability to self-edit are required
  • You will understand the mobile digital world and will be interested in ‘the future of journalism’
  • A strong ability to work to strict deadlines and perform detailed work, sometimes under the significant pressure of breaking news
  • An NCTJ qualification is preferred, but not essential for the right candidate
  • Knowledge of Samsung smartphones would be a bonus!

Your Role

  • Find and curate the most ‘need-to-know’ news stories of the day
  • Work with the UK Editor-in-Chief to establish the day’s agenda
  • Write several short article summaries per shift, in upday’s house style
  • Shift work — including weekends — is a requirement of the role
  • Help develop and experiment across our social media channels
  • Use a variety of tools to continually optimise our sources and reportage

What we offer

  • A competitive salary and a responsible role within a dynamic European news start-up (that’s part of the Axel Springer family)
  • Work laptop and a Samsung smartphone
  • The opportunity to occasionally work remotely or from our offices in Berlin, Paris or Warsaw
  • Some travel to headquarters in Berlin

Interested? Send a cover letter and CV to the UK editor-in-chief Tom McArthur at tom@upday.com, marked ‘mobile editor application’ and your name in the subject header.

Due to the potential number of applicants it may be impossible for us to respond to everyone.
