On May 19th, UPEI’s Moodle will be getting a minor version upgrade. This will be a much smaller upgrade than last year’s but will include some efficiency and ease-of-use improvements for course instructors.

Here’s some of the small improvements that you will be able to take advantage of with the new version:

Bulk Course Edits

Bulk editing options

Using the new bulk editing options you will be able to show/hide, delete, duplicate, or move many activities at once. This feature can be a time saver when preparing for the next iteration of a course.

Add Content In Place

The + icon can be pressed to add an activity between the forum and lecture

Previously when you added new materials such as quizzes or assignments they would be added to the bottom of the section. With the new version you’ll be able to add content where you want it in the section instead of having to drag and drop it after you finish building the activity.

Custom Quiz Numbers

Sometimes instructors want to group questions together, such as for questions around a particular case. Instructors can now use custom numbering to make the connection of these questions more clear.

Decluttered course page

The new version that can collapse information like multiple restrictions
The current version that uses more screen space

The newer version of Moodle has collapsed the size of its icons for activity types letting more activities and resources be displayed on the course page and save a bit scrolling. In the example above, multiple restrictions can be collapsed and expanded so students can see requirements without those requirements always taking up more screen real estate for the entire duration of the course.

Atlantic OER/RÉL Atlantique Integration

Atlantic OER / RÉL Atlantique has published an integration tool for their pressbook OERs. This will allow instructors to embed materials from Atlantic OER / RÉL Atlantique directly into their Moodle course.
