It’s October! For many places in the world, the leaves are changing color and the temperature is beginning to cool. And of course, we’re all preparing for the most creatively exciting holiday of the year: Halloween!
Given the creative energy Uplanders have shown us in past events, we’re very excited to announce a number of events that will bring that creativity to life in Upland.
Miles’ Haunted House
As usual, Miles is hard at work ensuring that Upland contains amazing experiences for all. To this end, Miles is constructing a unique haunted house experience.
Miles’ haunted house will be the official Upland haunted house. It will include a 3D model on a single property in Upland. That property will have a dedicated pin that, when selected, will trigger Miles’ haunted house experience.
Every time you visit the haunted house, you will get the same visual experience. However, different players may get a slightly different experience, which we will be utilizing to hold a collaborative community event. You’ll have to work together as a community and pay diligent attention. Opening the experience will require the block explorer to be within discovery range, just like City Hall.
Where will Miles’ haunted house be located? That’s up to you! We’ll be announcing a new event soon, and the winner of this event will get to choose one of their properties to temporarily host Miles haunted house experience.
Community Haunted Houses
In addition to Miles’ haunted house, we’re inviting the community to bring their creativity to the table in 2 huge ways.
First, you will be able to submit your own custom 3D haunted house, which will be temporarily placed on a property you own, of your choosing (The haunted houses will be removed after Halloween, see model specifications below). Be sure to get creative, because there will be awards for the best designed houses.
Second, players will be able to create their own spooky experiences. These experiences will be in video format, and will play through a mechanism very similar to Miles’ haunted house experience. You will be able to select which property you want associated with it.
If you want to design a video experience, but not a 3D model for the map, we will have a default 3D model we will place on your property. Community haunted houses will be represented with pins on the map.
Later this month we will be announcing a unique tour that will guide you through all the amazing community haunted houses, giving you potential prizes along the way. This ensures that community haunted houses will get many visits, and will be truly appreciated by the Upland trick or treaters.
Block Explorer Costume Contest
Who doesn’t love dressing up for Halloween? With world events putting a damper on parties this year, we’re offering you a digital alternative.
Players will have the option to add a ‘costume’ to their block explorer. Players will be able to create their own custom costume, which will be made available only in their personal profile pages. Alternatively, you can also select from one of several very cool costumes that we produce. A costume will be a semi-transparent image that covers the block explorer.
On Halloween we will have a special “trick or treat” parade route. Only block explorers with a Halloween costume can join. We’ll be dropping some Halloween themed pinatas along the route and participants will also qualify for the first ever Upland Costume Contest!
There’s A Lot More
In addition to all of these awesome activities, we will also be announcing new community events and contests every week leading up to Halloween. Stay tuned, and make sure you’re on our Discord to receive every update on upcoming festivities!
All submissions are due by October 26th at 12pm PT.
