Mahsa Amini and Protests for Women’s Rights in Iran

Mahsa Amini was a 22-year old girl living in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, in northwestern Iran. She was someone’s daughter and someone’s sister. Amini was just going about her day, completing a very normal activity of visiting her uncle. But as soon as she stepped out of the station at her destination of Tehran, Amini was arrested, accused of wearing trousers that were too tight and showing a little bit of hair through her hijab. Following this event, Amini was detained while her family begged for information about her status and health situation.
