CPCU Society announces Council Rock Fire Safety contest winners

The Philadelphia Chapter of the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters Society (CPCU), a professional insurance educational society, announced the winners of the 35th annual Fire Safety In The Home Contest, co-sponsored with the Council Rock school board.

Students in Council Rock elementary schools were invited to write essays or create posters on the subject of fire safety during National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7–13. Each school in the district submitted its top entrants for the final judging. The panel of judges was comprised of school board director Joseph Hidalgo, Northampton Township fire marshal Frank Fenton and former Northampton Township supervisor Pete Palestina.

The awards will be presented at the Council Rock school board meeting on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and again at the Northampton Township board of supervisors meeting on Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The Nov. 15 presentation will be held at Newtown Middle School, 116 Newtown-Richboro Road., Newtown and the Dec. 19 presentation will be held at the Northampton Township Administration Building, 55 Township Road, Richboro.

In addition to the CPCU Society awards listed below, the Townships will present special citation awards of recognition and State Sens. Tommy Tomlinson and Chuck McIlhinney and Reps. Helen Tai and Perry Warren will present commendations from the House and Senate. In addition, municipal officials of the township/borough in which the winners reside will also be invited to attend the Dec. 20 presentation to acknowledge the winners with citations from their respective municipalities. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has also been invited to present citations.

The winning students and prizes are as follows:

1st and 2nd Grade Category

1st place — Spencer Joworisak, Rolling Hills Elementary, $100 cash, plaque, movie tickets

2nd place — Alision Butkiewicz, Richboro Elementary, $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets

3rd place — Ashley Miller, Hillcrest Elementary, $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets

4th place — Kyleigh Pisarek, Welch Elementary, $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets

3rd and 4th Grade Category

1st place — Nicholas Gromosaik, Churchville Elementary, $100 cash, plaque, movie tickets

2nd place — Alexander Gromosaik, Churchville Elementary, $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets

3rd place — Noah Melhuish, Rolling Hills Elementary, $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets

4th place — Riley Witmer, Hillcrest Elementary, $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets

5th and 6th Grade Category

1st place — Alexandria Murashka, Goodnoe Elementary, $100 cash, plaque, movie tickets
