Many of the public, especially retirees, think that homework is a good idea. After all, it teaches school kids about discipline of getting tasks done, and about the deadlines that you can potentially face in life.

But, let me tell you, it isn’t all benefits. And I’m not talking about for the school pupils, I’m talking about for the economy.

The impact on the economy

Homework has a strongly negative impact on the economy. Let me tell you why.

Look at teachers, for example. What is their job?

To teach.

So, why are we, tax-payers, funding $50,000+ salaries for teachers when a large chunk of their time isn’t even spent on teaching. It’s spent on marking homework.

Instead of wasting tens of thousands of dollars every year, we should actually make valid use of the money we spend.

If a teacher’s job is to teach, then why are we paying them to do something else? Instead of marking homework, they should do something that’s useful, like teaching and supporting the students.

Not to mention how much time that the average school student wastes every year on doing homework. If homework was banned, then they would have so much more time on their hands, which could be spent on things like … studying for exams.

And when the average grade isn’t getting any better, it clearly shows that students need more time to get that A-grade. And if you don’t think this is related to the economy, you’re wrong. Because a worsened grade quite literally leads to a fail. And what happens when students fail? They don’t get jobs. Thus resulting in an unemployment crisis.

And that’s not even me getting started on the negative impact on students mental health …

The negative impact on health

When school pupils are being assigned with work for multiple subjects, things can become largely overwhelming. Stress. Anxiety. Even depression.

And … an increased cortisol.

When you’re body gets a cortisol spike, that lowers the body’s fertile ability due to hormonal changes. And when that happens, people have reduced fertility. Potentially resulting in underpopulation.

Conclusion

Homework isn’t a pandemic, but, it can definitely have a negative influence on:

  • The tax-payer
  • Health
  • Mental health
  • Employment
  • Student grades
