Rainbows, above all, are symbols of hope. A reminder that after a storm comes a calm. They are also one of nature’s most colorful displays. But where do all these colors come from?

The colors of a rainbow are produced by the sunlight reflecting off of water droplets in the atmosphere. When the sunlight hits the water droplet, it is refracted, or bent. This bending causes the light to separate into its different colors.

Red light is bent the least, while violet light is bent the most. This is why red is usually at the top of a rainbow, with violet at the bottom.

But why are there only seven colors in a rainbow? And why are they arranged in the order we see them?
