Writing lets you find your voice

Humans have an innate need to be heard. To be seen. Developing your own writing style will make you visible to others. It takes time and effort to write an insightful article.

Anyone can write a caustic, manipulative, comment. People who can’t have a civilized conversation often project their own flaws and insecurities onto you.

Their time would be better spent honing their writing skills.

Writing calms your mind

As a highly intelligent individual, you’re prone to analyzing the world around you. Your ravenous brain wants to absorb as much information as possible. Writing articles is a great way to keep your mind focused and share whatever you think is important with the world. Let your acute intellect connect the dots in surprising ways.

Writing helps you focus

You need to visualize a plan to write a good article. You need to have a general idea first, a list of seemingly unrelated issues, followed by a logical linkage of these issues. You won’t write a readable article if you can’t focus, because chaos and verbosity will be reflected in your writing. Word limit serves as a reminder to keep it short and sweet.

Writing can be done anytime, anywhere

No matter if you’re sipping coconuts under a palm tree ― or toiling away in a cubicle ― you can always jot down valuable ideas. Eureka moments are worth it. Develop a filtering mechanism. Discard pointless ideas.

Writing helps you form valuable connections

Your article will be read by people from all walks of life ― rich and poor. It doesn’t get more diverse than this. Most people will never contact you, so you won’t really know who has read your article.

That’s perfectly understandable. This is what makes article writing so exciting ― once your article gets published ― it’s always out there for people to read.

You could change someone’s life and not know it. Cynics and contrarians will undoubtedly tell you writing isn’t worth it, because there’s usually no profit involved. Well, if you don’t try ― you won’t know what kind of doors can open for you.

Don’t deny yourself an opportunity to form potentially valuable connections. That includes people who have gone through similar experiences in life. People who speak the same language as you — the language of shared experience.

Writing builds your social capital

A well-written article in English boosts your linguistic credibility, so you won’t need to come up with mellifluous monologues to mesmerize potential employers.

A link to your article will do.

Writing helps you build social capital ― particularly when you’re an introvert. It doesn’t matter if you’re an atheist, who doesn’t believe consciousness is anything more than the product of the brain, a devout Christian, perhaps an agnostic ― your ideas are welcome.

The ultimate writing challenge? Write a novel!

That’s right! When (not if!) you write a novel, you have every right to call yourself the master writer. . .on your way to fame and fortune? Anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

Don’t expect to earn a lot of money right off the bat. It takes time and effort. Well, unless you’re a really, really lucky and ingenious individual (preferably with a magic wand).

Paraphrasing the iconic Uncle Sam poster message ― I want you to join the global writers’ club!

Happy Fourth of July!
