UPPER EAST SIDE—In the early morning of November 8th, Mackenzie Barlett, a female Democrat, walked out of the polling site at Robert Wagner Middle School on Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. She’s easy to spot, wearing a t-shirt that bears a version of the U.S. flag comprised of the word “nasty.”

“Nasty woman for Clinton,” said Barlett as she pointed to the characters on her t-shirt. “Nasty woman” is a term Trump used to describe Clinton in the final presidential debate.

“I believe in her. I think she’s been a dedicated public servant for a long time,” said Barlett. “Furthermore, I think Donald Trump is terrifying. He’s against democracy in not only the United States but also the world.”

According to Barlett, most of the people in her Upper East Side neighborhood are voting for Hillary Clinton in this presidential election.

“Most people” doesn’t include Bartlett’s husband, who supports Trump. “He believes in lower taxes, while I’d rather pay higher taxes to be benefited in other ways,” said Barlett. “We’ve been fighting for months, and I’m hoping he’ll forget to vote.”

Barlett’s 10-year-old son is a “swing child,” who moves back and forth depending on which parent he’s talking to, while her 7-year-old daughter is a steadfast Clinton supporter. “I brainwashed my girl to support our country’s first female president.”

“It has not been a very good campaign. The best person, Hillary Clinton, hopefully will win,” said Bob Hormats, Vice Chairman of Kissinger Associates, who used to serve as Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment. “She’s very competent, far far better than Trump in every way: experience, temperament, judgment, knowledge and inclusivity.”

An early voter and a Clinton supporter, Glady Cancel helped with the election as a poll worker today. “She’s the best,” said Cancel. “I would never vote for racists, and I can’t vote for a man who wants to deport Mexicans and Muslims. He doesn’t respect people with disabilities, women, and our country.”

Joshua Kaufman, a married gay man, registered to vote this morning with his husband, his mother, and his 5-month-old daughter. Democrat Kaufman is a big supporter of Hillary, and predicted Clinton has a 120% chance to win.

“Donald Trump is a racist, a misogynistic, and he’s anti-gay,” said Kaufman. “I don’t think he is experienced and has the temperament to be a president.”

Mr. and Mrs. Harris, an older couple, have been residents on the Upper East Side for decades and also expect Clinton to win tonight.
