On the 1st of September, together with IRISnet we launched our joint NFT Collection Launchpad Event. Our aim with this campaign is to increase overall market activity on IRISnet; engage with and nurture talent from the creator community, and provide the promotional tools necessary for their collection to flourish in the market.

We are pleased to announce the third winner of the event!

Jack Ross

Jack Ross is an American photographer based in Vietnam who specializes in street photography. Drawing on inspiration from legendary photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ernst Haas, Elliott Erwitt, and Fan Ho. His work often captures an array of subjects that blend elements of geometry, high contrast, and a medley of human activity.

‘On-Line’

Insight

“The On-Line Collection is a 10 piece NFT photography project that follows a well followed theme within photography. For this collection, I followed the theme of subjects crossing some form of static line. Whether that be man made or natural. Creatively, the images follow the compositional techniques forged by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Fan Ho.

This small collection was photographed in Vietnam and curated to depict human activity on the proverbial line of compositional theories. Nearly all images are center weighted to emphasize the human in the picture but drawn in by several geometric angles. In short, I wanted to emphasize that even in chaos, humans can walk on-line.”

Creative Process

While living in the former French colonial retreat town of Da Lat, Vietnam, I would often walk aimlessly for hours searching for interesting subjects to photograph. The local markets are always a place of hustle and activity for characters to thrive in.

For the On-Line collection, 7/10 images were photographed at the central market using the Fujifilm X100V. A compact camera with a fixed focal length 23mm f/2 lens (35mm equivalent on full frame sensor).

From a street photography perspective, there are many ways to capture the street. Some like Bruce Gilden will get close to their subjects or Matt Stuart who loves using humor and surrealism within his photographs. I guess if you were to slot me into a sub category, it would be fine art street photography which was denoted by a good friend of mine, an alum of Central Saint Martins. In truth, my interests ebb and flow through several photography themes.

As for the technical process, my camera is set up to capture only RAW files and is always in manual mode. I don’t like the idea of letting the camera decide what is accurately exposed. Spot metering is used for auto white balancing and if it’s ever off, I usually adjust in post using Lightroom.”

Collection Benefits

Jack will be deploying collection revenue on Osmosis and Stride for the first collection ROI within the Photography vertical.
