“For me, hair is an accoutrement. Hair is jewellery. It’s an accessory.” - Jill Scott
This week is National Hair Week!
Anyone that knows me, knows I change my hair often, very often. But what most people don’t know is why I do and why I love hair so much.
Here are a few reasons why:
1- There are times where I feel like I have changed my perspective on life, or the way I see myself. In those moments I want to show a physical change in what I believe has been an internal one (very deep I know).
2 — I love the ability that I have to change my outer appearance in a few minutes or sometimes hours. With a few products and tools I can change my
look completely. I can go from an all natural afro to 24” red straight hair, I love that I can express myself and the many personality traits I have through my hair.
3- I love to keep people guessing, everyday is a surprise!
4- I see learning about different hairstyles and testing them out on myself as a little challenge I set myself. I watch video tutorials and perfect my skills and test them out on myself. Often times I get it sooo wrong and it is a diaster, I will spend days after work trying to fix it until I am completely happy with the result. Once done, I feel a great sense of accomplishment! My little challenge has been completed.
5- I love doing peoples hair too, I love seeing how happy a new hairstyle makes someone. I love the time I get to spend with a person as I do their hair, the conversations that arise from hours in someone’s hair are often times life-changing and so therapeutic!
