The social media of not all that long ago was built house by house, wire by wire.

In old promo pieces, the idea that you could pick up a phone in one place and talk to someone in another was still a new thought.

When trucks roll out to install phones in living rooms, and workers rush to repair phone lines downed in storms, there’s drama. There are emergencies.

There is technological exceptionalism.
