Setting Up Your Community: The First Step to Drive Change
Setting up the community lays the technological ground for everything your community can do using the UrbanChange solutions. Once your community is set up, it becomes a part of the UrbanChange ecosystem and you can start building a plan on how to use UrbanChange, to make your community more engaged and prosperous.
How to Set Up the Community Online
The UrbanChange Protocol uses the Algorand Blockchain. Transactions performed on-chain bear fees, paid in this case with Algos, Algorand’s native cryptocurrency. Therefore, to start the flow, you must first ensure an Algorand account (supported by multiple wallets with Pera Wallet as the official Algorand wallet).
Creating your community vault requires a 35 Algo setup fee.
During the process, you will be asked to connect your wallet via the AlgoSigner Chrome extension or Pera Wallet.
To begin, visit the UrbanChange website HERE. You will be prompted to click on “Set up your community” to enter the flow.
Step 1: Community Info
Step 1 — provide the community name and location. Make sure you enter a community name that is relevant to your community and can be easily identified by members of your community.
Step 2: Personal Info
In step 2, you will be asked to provide some basic information about yourself. If you are initiating this community on behalf of an organization you can tick the “I’m initiating this on behalf of an organization”. In this case, you will be asked to fill out additional information.
Step 3: Connect Your Wallet
Connecting your wallet initiates the Community Vault setup — which is the first component of your community on UrbanChange that will enable you to apply for the grant.
You will need to connect your wallet using one of the following methods:
Pera Algo Wallet — recommended
- By hitting “Connect Per Wallet” you will be prompted with a screen asking you to connect via web or mobile.
- Choose the “Connect with Pera Mobile” option
- You will be prompted to scan a QR code.
- Open your wallet application installed on your mobile phone.
- On the app page click the “Scan QR” button and scan the code.
- Next, you will be prompted with a message asking if you would like to connect to UrbanChange.
- After accepting this, a zero-sum transaction will appear for you to sign as a verification method of your account. Sign the transaction to complete the connection step.
- Keep your app open on your phone before going to the next step.
AlgoSigner
- Download and install the extension.
If you haven’t already created or imported an existing account, open the extension in Chrome and press “add account”. - Go back to the “Connect your wallet” screen.
- Click “AlgoSigner” and enter your password in the AlgoSigner popup.
- Then, a new screen will pop up asking you to grant access to UrbanChange. Choose the account you wish to connect by hitting the checkmark next to it and clicking “Grant access”.
- Finally, you will be asked to authenticate your account by signing a zero-sum transaction on the AlgoSigner screen. Sign the transaction by hitting “Sign” and then entering your password. You are now connected and can continue to the next step.
Step 4: Setup Vault
In this step, you will be prompted to complete a 35 Algos transaction. This payment is required for creating and deploying your community’s smart contracts on the Algorand Blockchain. These contracts contain the data of your community and the logic for its management.
Once you sign the transaction:
- When using Algosigner — a popup will appear with the transaction.
- When using Pera Wallet — the transaction will appear on the wallet mobile app.
After you have completed the transaction, the “Setup vault” button will be clickable, click it and set up the community’s vault.
*You can always click the ”Try again” button if you reject the transaction accidentally.
** Please note that the process of setting up the vault can take up to 2 minutes, so in the meantime enjoy our UrbanChange Gif loader!
Step 5: Apply for the Grant
You’re almost done!! Now you can Apply for the UrbanChange grant. If you are using the wallet app, make sure to have the app open to receive the final step.
Click on “Approve & apply”. Here you will be prompted with an opt-in request. Asking you to opt-in to the “Leader” asset and the UrbanChange Token asset (UCT). This action will serve you as a Community Leader and a member of the UrbanChange Protocol and governance processes.
Next, you will be directed to the Success page [our favorite part!] Confirming your application for the grant was received and is now pending review.
Click the “Done” button to be redirected to follow up on your application status.
