Justin Remais

Prof. Justin Remais is Head of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. His research examines the major environmental and social forces that are influencing the spread of global infectious diseases, including unplanned urbanization, climate change, and the industrialization of agriculture. He leads a cluster of studies examining the shifting dynamics of West Nile Virus, TB, leptospirosis, schistosomiasis, coccidioidomycosis, and enteric infections, in settings spanning China, Ecuador, Senegal, and California. His research illuminates the fundamental processes of disease spread in changing environments, and incorporates the resulting theory and knowledge into analytical tools for the optimization of infectious disease surveillance and control. He holds a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences, both from the University of California, Berkeley.

In Urban China Forum 2019, Professor Justin Remais will share his recent research “ Shifting Exposures in China’s Urbanization Experience: Implications for Health”.
