Who are we?
We are building UrbanClap (www.urbanclap.com | Android App | iOS App) which is India’s largest home services marketplace. This is your go-to platform that helps you book reliable home services, delivered at your doorstep — from beauty services to fitness training, appliance repair to plumbing etc. We have worked tirelessly over the last 4 years, to build a strong foundation of 50,000+ service professionals and serving more than 2 million customers across the breadth of India and Dubai, and we continue to build…
Our Vision
Our ambition is to organise the service commerce industry, bringing in the benefits of scale — structured processes, systems, standardisation, transparency and trust. UrbanClap’s vision is to empower 1 million+ service professionals to become micro service entrepreneurs. Prior to joining UrbanClap, most of these professionals, be it plumbers, beauticians, carpenters etc., would typically earn INR 10–15k per month, working for a local shop, aggregator or as a freelancer. The UrbanClap platform enables these professionals to become micro - entrepreneurs by empowering them in 5 key areas –
1/ Customer access, reach & brand — Working as an individual franchisee of UrbanClap with a steady stream of customer orders
2/ Financing and Insurance — Opening bank accounts, access to loans for upfront kits / 2-wheelers / home, Life and Accidental Insurance Programs
3/ Tech-led standardisation — Standardising the service — creating SKUs, fixed and transparent pricing, clear service deliverables, defined SOPs, delivery tracking, payment systems, reviews etc., to help remove friction from the service experience
4/ Training & Certification — Soft and Core Skills Training imparted in our training centres and via the app
5/ Product Procurement — Purchasing consumables (Spares, cosmetics, paints etc.) needed for service delivery in bulk

Role and Its Impact
The Head of Design is the chief experience evangelist amongst us. Its more than simple leadership , road-mapping and org building, its about being obsessive about the experience for our customers and partners and solving for it.
We have the opportunity to redefine the experience of at-home services , and shape the livelihoods of the professionals. — defining the “what” and establishing the “how” of a service experience and all that it takes to build the ecosystem. We are at the centre stage of nation building — by creating direct employment for all the service professionals who aspire to dream big. What thrill it gives to build products that is loved by consumers, where product shapes experiences in the real world, and where you create better work opportunities. Imagine empowering a salon professional by helping them earn INR 60,000 instead of INR 15,000, you have enabled her to purchase a house for the first time, shift to a self-owned vehicle, and cater to better education for her children and possibly created a multiplier effect for her generations to come!
As experience architects, designers at UrbanClap face a unique challenge — to build experiences that are scalable , reusable , simple and lovable across multiple independent categories and flows (imagine how different a salon experience would be compared to a multi day painting experience).
What makes this a bigger thrill ride is the fact that we have no well-established playbook in services — we have to solve tons of novel problems , and some of them , pioneered by us from scratch.
In short, our mission is to define and establish a strong playbook for the at-home services world at scale. In doing so, we create massive impact by creating highly empowered jobs. We get to shape what a customer and a partner’s experience should be. And all this “experience” building is curated and scaled by our product.
These are early days for this sector, the canvas is empty for us to paint.

Your Background
- 6+ years of experience in designing for digital products (preferably in consumer internet space)
- 2+ years of experience as a design leader with complimentary experience leading design efforts on successful, complex projects at scale
- You are deeply pragmatic and have an uncommon ability to empower and lead a team of designers
- You have the ability to consider long-term sustainability in all design decisions and maintain an eye for reusability in designs. You’ve weathered release cycles and know what details matter, how to motivate engineers to get the fit and finish right, how to translate insights from user studies into meaningful action, and what’s most likely to go afoul at each stage
- You are at the forefront of defining the designs not only the “what” but the “how” and therefore are able to crisply define a problem statement, what success should look like and how did you arrive at a design solution
