Smart bands: magic through your wrist
Do you believe in magic?
Of course you do!
It’s ok if you admit it!
And what if you could have a glimpse of magic, in your wrist?
This is what Disney is doing: pretty impressive uh?
The wristband contains a chip carrying a unique identifier and a radio which sends and receives signals both through contact sensors and through long range sensors in the parks and resorts. Bands do not carry personal information, but there is a possibility of adding a credit card account in order to facilitate purchases within the park/resort. It is also waterproof!!!
But now you may be asking: what about security?
Well, since there is a permanent connection to Disney security rooms, they can track the wristband and deactivated it anytime in case of loss or theft.
If you want to give your children a limited amount of funds to be used through your holidays it is also possible!
With this system we can now enjoy Disneyland in its plenitude, not thinking much in credit cards, long queues, carrying cash and keys: magic will help us!
This is another fantastic example of smart devices, that we believe it will be helpful for future cities when extended to
1- other companies, like VISA, that with this kind of band can allow for instant payments, without the use of any card and having a pin or fingerprint attached it would increase security of payments.
2- governments, having something similar to a VISA band but with increased functionalities, for example, enabling users to enter metro/buses, voting and hospital identification processes, etc, etc.
These examples may be part of a not distant future, so let’s see what happens, but for now, lets appreciate it as magic!
