We don´t even think about it. We just type in our browser: amazon.com, search on the website for a product, select it, choose a payment method, type in our shipping and billing address, wait some days (or our prestige amazon prime customers only 24 hours) and *hocus pocus*, our package will be delivered directly to our address.

Now imagine the same scenario; You don´t live anymore in your cozy, fully furnished downtown apartment, but in Rocinha, the largest favela in Brazil and the most dangerous and unorganized place in the world. Your apartment has no address at all. You have to change your accommodation several times a year due to gang wars. How will you ever be able to receive a letter or package? How will you ever be able share your location with friends and family, allowing them to know where you are and telling them that you are safe?

Around 75% of the world suffers from inconsistent, complicated or no addresses. 4 billion people don´t have reliable street addresses, house numbers or ZIP codes. Latitude and longitude coordinates provide a precise and universal location reference, but whilst this is great for machine, it´s not great for people.

Thanks to what3words everything is now different. It´s a new, SMART, global addressing system. Divided the world in 3x3 meter squares and have given each one a three word address. It´s as easy as saying: forest.cheerful.magic and it refers to a unique and specific 3 meter square somewhere on the planet.

forest.cheerful.magic

In developing countries that means a water point can be fixed by just saying three words. Humanitarian aid can be requested even in the remotest areas. Hospital and schools can be easily found.

horizon.chords.mainland

… and your package will arrive for sure. No matter where you are. Thank you what3words. Thank you, for making every city in the world SMART.
