What Exactly is Responsible Minting from UREEQA?

At UREEQA, we talk a lot about Responsible Minting™. It’s our very own concept, and it’s the core of what we offer as protectors, managers and monetizers of creative work.

But it also occurs to us that many of those coming to UREEQA as potential users, partners and/or investors might not know what the hell we’re talking about when we say we “Responsibly Minted™ BK The Artist’s first-ever NFT using the power of the blockchain” or “we’re using Responsible Minting™ to change the whole damn game when it comes to digital assets.”

We probably hadn’t used that second sentence yet but let’s add it to the record now.

Anyhow, while UREEQA adopters and believers (self-proclaimed “UREEQAns”) are as savvy and forward-thinking as any online group, we still felt it would be appropriate to lay out some clear-cut definitions for the concepts we frequently utilize when discussing our platform. And it makes sense to start with Responsible Minting™, which is all over this page and our website for obvious reasons.

For a focused summary of the concept from an impossibly smart human, we went to superstar UREEQA COO Robert Eccles.

“Responsible Minting™ is the NFT creation process that underpins UREEQA’s commitment to minting only NFTs for which the originality and authenticity of the source media has been rigorously verified and validated by UREEQA,” Eccles explained. “It represents UREEQA’s steadfast support for Creators who, in many cases, have their creations used without their permission and without benefiting them. It is also a commitment to the purchasers of our NFTs that we’ve done the work to ensure that they can be confident in the legitimacy of their purchase.”

It’s entirely possible that the first time you heard the term, you figured it had something to do with sustainability and the environment. And while we applaud and support Eth2 upgrades that will make using the Ethereum blockchain a much more environmentally friendly process, the responsibility we’re referencing here is all about getting away from the deeply irresponsible nature of NFT minting that has plagued the market during its Wild West-like infancy.

“Responsible Minting™ is a beacon of light in the fog of this ‘NFT rush’ where NFTs are being minted without much thought about originality and authenticity at all,” Eccles added. “The Responsible Minting™ approach also seeks to create NFTs that have genuine ‘utility’ that bolster their desirability and subsequent value.”

That last part is not a requirement. You’re welcome to Responsibly Mint™ an NFT with UREEQA on its own with no added utility, but enhancing NFTs with utility is a key focus of ours. We encourage Creators to consider what else they might be able to offer fans and prospective buyers in addition to the work itself.

That could mean an NFT that includes a piece of a musician’s work but also secures you a private dinner with the artist, or an NFT from a band that doubles as a ticket to an exclusive virtual concert featuring that group. BK The Artist’s drop included access to token pre-sales of other projects and an upcoming Responsibly Minted™ drop from The Crazy Plate Lady will include the shipment of her physical work as well as custom request opportunities.

TL;DR? Here’s how we’d sum it up:

Responsible Minting™ (verb): The process of placing a piece of creative work on the Ethereum blockchain in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT) after UREEQA’s platform has verified the work’s ownership, authorship and originality. Central to the system is also an emphasis on adding genuine utility to enhance an NFT on the market.

The UREEQA platform strives to protect Creators’ work, their rights and their revenue by harnessing the power of blockchain technology.

Established in Canada in 2020, UREEQA will modernize the inefficient and bureaucratic systems currently in place for copyright, patent, industrial design and trademark protection. By building a robust and compelling Package of Proof for source creative work, UREEQA only mints Validated NFTs to represent creative rights. This helps keep buyers safe by giving them confidence that the work they are purchasing was minted by the smart contract approved by the Creator of the work and is therefore authentic.

UREEQA provides value and opportunities for its Creators, Validators and Tokenholders via URQA, the token at the heart of the UREEQA ecosystem.
