Entertainment In A New Way
Entertainment is highly relevant in our everyday social lives. From our many social media outlets to our use of technology, entertainment is a major part of us. The type of entertainment we have and how we keep up with it has more than changed from what our parents had. Even more so from what our grandparents encountered. The type of way our grandparents had to keep up with entertainment was through the newspaper and the radio.
Print for them was the way in which they read the news around them. For them, reading the newspaper each day was how they kept informed with current events. The read what was going on around the world. Newspapers were how they followed major events. They kept up with movie stars and singers by listening to the radio. My grandmother loved to listen to her “shows” on the radio and she adored to listen to her favorite old time singers.
My mother always recalls how my grandmother enjoyed sitting around the radio to listen to comedy shows or to listen to a concert. My mother was a child when her parents relied on print and the radio to keep up with entertainment. My mother also grew up with print by reading books and staying educated through them. She however relied on television to keep up with the changing world. My parents still used the newspaper and other forms of print to find information or know about the news. Entertainment for them was still a little relevant through print. This however has changed for them since the era of technology began with their kids. Our generation has a new way to keep up with the entertainment around us. Print and radio has been very much overtaken by kindles and social media.
We keep up to date with the entertainment world through the technology that is so readily available for us. We don’t read newspaper or magazines because we have apps for that. We stay up to date with current events through Twitter, Facebook, news apps. We live the entertainment through Instagram and Snapchat. For us entertainment is constantly in our everyday social lives. We have information available with just a tough of a finger. There are many who believe this is a problem because we have become glued to the technology that proves us with our entertainment. I believed that in a way it’s been able to connect us more. Yes, there are drawbacks, I won’t deny that, but I truly believe that being able to escape in our entertainment can help us learn. I for one like being able to keep up with the changing world through music, movies, concerts. All of these being forms of entertainment that can be so easily captured in our social media lives.
