Tomorrow is the day, the annual Record Store Day across the UK, and Sophia Bonner has sat down to give you a taste of what she’s excited for ahead of all the madness.

It’s that time again, and probably a more important year than most, with one of the biggest record sellers HMV almost completely closing their doors and purchases of physical copies of music drastically decreasing, that interest in collecting vinyl should sustain and increase. Hence, thank god it is Record Store Day tomorrow.

RSD, as every year, will take place this weekend Saturday the 13th April, all across the country with over 200 record stores celebrating their similarities and achievements. Therefore, I thought it was only appropriate to review the day and provide some insight into what I will be looking forward to, whether it be records or live performances.

The Orielles — 12:00 — Piccadilly Records, Manchester

The Orielles may just be a three-piece but create a loud, infectious sound that Manchester is lucky to have in their town tomorrow. But with a change, the band will be doing a DJ set which is one not to miss at midday.

DMA’S — DMA’S

DMA’S — 1:00 — Rough Trade, Nottingham

Australian 3-piece will grace Nottingham with their presence, for what should be a highlight for Nottingham stores. With the release of their second album last year, ‘For Now’, the band are now releasing a special edition vinyl for RSD, which is a re-release of their 2015 self-titled single EP, featuring the likes of ‘Laced’ and ‘Your Low’. If you’re a huge DMA’S fan get your hands on this before it’s too late.

Vinyl Staircase — 1:00(ETA) — Lion Coffee & Records London

Fitting name for a band playing Record Store Day, but look further past their title and you have a powerful, up-and-coming London band who just played a sold-out Lexington gig and are set to be playing a range of festivals this summer.

The London record store is opening their doors at 12 pm and warn of masses of people, so if you’re looking for new music to uncover, head over to the East London store early rather than later.

Our Girl — 1:30 — Rough Trade East London // 5:30 — Resident Music Brighton

This Brighton three-piece will be taking not only to the stage of the iconic Rough Trade Store in East London but will also travel to their hometown Brighton in the evening. The band have been selling gigs out all over the UK, with their angelic, indie sound capturing fans everywhere they go.

They have kindly decided to release a limited edition 12” clear vinyl of their Live performance at St Pancras Old Church earlier on this year, which features tracks from their debut album ‘Stranger Today’. It will be their first acoustic LP, with less than 1000 copies available on the day — so grab yours quick, I know I will be!

Tim Burgess (The Charlatans) — 14.00 — Piccadilly Records, Manchester

Us And Us Only — The Charlatans

Along with a performance from the lead singer of The Charlatans in Manchester, the band are releasing a transparent limited edition copy of their sixth album ‘Us and Us Only’, which hasn’t been reissued since 1999. Featuring the likes of ‘Impossible’ and ‘Forever’ this is not an opportunity to miss.

The Leisure Society — 15:00–15:30 — Rough Trade Bristol

This London/Brighton based band have only recently crept onto my radar, despite their discography dating back to 2009. Regardless, the successful indie-folk/pop who are eight members strong will be treating Bristol I am sure of it.

Gang of Four — 20:30–21:00 — Rough Trade East London

The post-punk band formed back in the 80s will be treating Rough Trade East to their closing set for the evening, and what a close it is set to be. So make sure if you are in the area, check out what else London has to offer throughout the day before this iconic end.

A favourite part of RSD for me is the chance to uncover new music, for free. So there is no harm in popping down to your local record store even for an hour to see what new or old music you could be missing out on.

Happy shopping!
