Top 10 New Tracks
As summer begins to draw to a close, here are the hottest new tracks that you should be listening to as those longer nights draw in.
Make It Out Alive — Nao ft. SiR
This is the newly released single from East London alternative R&B artist Nao. It comes on the run up to her sophomore studio release — due to drop in autumn this year — which will be the eagerly anticipated follow up to her critically acclaimed debut LP, For All We Know, which earned her a Best Female Artist nomination at the BRIT Awards in 2016.
Our Generation — Everyone You Know
‘Our Generation’ is the debut single from London duo Everyone You Know, the musical union of brothers Rhys Kirkby-Cox and Harvey Kirkby. The brothers describe their sound as a blend of hip hop, punk, and 90s rave, taking influence from musicians such as Wu Tang Clan, The Prodigy, and Arctic Monkeys.
‘Our Generation’ is the first track off the duo’s highly anticipated debut EP, Cheer Up Charlie, and the two are tipped as one of the hottest emerging artists in the UK right now.
Let’s Drink — Spring King
Spring King, a four-piece rock band from Manchester, have supported acts such as Slaves and Courtney Barnett, and have just released their second album, A Better Life. Frontman Tarek Musa, who is both the lead singer and the drummer for the band, says he has learnt a lot from Slaves’ Isaac Holman, a fellow drummer and lead singer. Things all kicked off for Spring King when Zane Lowe played their track ‘City’ on Beats Radio. “[It got] people from all over the world listening, sending us messages,” says Musa, “And loads of labels got in touch”.
Juice — Rebel Kuzco
Hailing from Michigan in the US, Rebel Kuzco was formerly a member of Rosewood 2055, a hip hop group also based in the state. After deciding to go it alone and work on his solo career, Kuzco began his own project, and released his seven-track album, Llamas and Luchadors, on the 31st August. ‘Juice’ is taken from that album.
A Million Stars — The Faim
The Faim’s debut EP, Summer is a Curse, which features a track of the same name that was included in our Top 10 a few months back, is released on the 7th September. Having kicked off 2018 on a particularly strong note, with extensive global touring — including their first ever sold-out headline show and opportunities to share the stage with Sleeping With Sirens, PVRIS, Lower Than Atlantis, and more — The Faim are definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Narcissist — No Rome ft. The 1975
‘Narcissist’ was the fourth and final track shared from No Rome’s latest EP, RIP Indo Hisashi, which was released at the end of August. Duetting with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy on this song, No Rome worked closely with Healy to produce the whole release. This might be no surprise, since the two are label mates after Dirty Hit Records signed No Rome in 2017 when Healy flew him out to the UK, and they seem to have a strong working relationship. The 1975 have also confirmed that, on their next tour, No Rome will be featured as their support.
Deep Down — Zhavia
‘Deep Down’ was written by Zhavia herself, and follows the release of her deeply personal debut single ‘Candlelight’, which has gained over 13 million combined video views and streams since its release last month.
This seventeen-year-old singer-songwriter was one of the contestants on the inaugural season of FOX’s singing competition, The Four. Emerging as a fan favorite thanks to her soulful voice, she quickly amassed a dedicated and loyal fan base, boasting over 3.3 million followers on Instagram.
One Shot — Mabel
A UK headline tour has been confirmed to close out an incredible 2018 for Mabel, with the dates including her biggest headline show yet at London’s Brixton Academy on November 12th. After retaining a spot in the chart’s Top 10 for five weeks, with her platinum-selling breakthrough single, ‘Finders Keepers’, Mabel’s even gained a nomination for her first ever BRIT Award (Critics’ Choice). Hear what all the hype is about below.
Bee-Sting — The Wombats
This single is an unreleased track from the indie-pop three-piece’s fourth album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life. The band have also announced a massive arena tour for 2019 where they will be supported by both Blenaevon and The Night Cafe.
Talking about this song, frontman Matthew Murphy said: “I think the song is again a bit of an homage to the ’90s, a bit of a psychedelic nod to early Dandy Warhols, maybe. Our UK tour in March/April was probably my favourite tour ever, but it feels like this [next] one is going to go off even more. Wembley is going to be a real moment for us!’
Rooftop — Clara Mae
Swedish Clara Hagman, better-known by her stage name, Clara Mae, combined her jazz background with her pop-music talent to produce this uplifting pop banger. Once a member of Eurodance band Ace Of Base, Hagman has since collaborated with the likes of David Guetta and Tiesto.
