Top 10 New Tracks
Here are your weekly Top Ten New Tracks from our Digital Librarian team.
You Had Your Soul With You — The National
‘You Had Your Soul With You’ is the latest release from American alternative rock group The National, and it follows on from their 2017 album Sleep Well Beast. The group have revealed that the single will be appearing on their surprise upcoming eighth LP, I Am Easy To Find, which is set for release mid-way through May. The album will feature more collaborators than are usually expected from The National’s releases, seeing frontman and vocalist Matt Berninger share the spotlight in order to showcase a greater ‘fabric of people’s identities’.
The band have also teased the trailer for a short film that is inspired by the music on their new album, and some of their new tracks will feature in the soundtrack for the piece. Catch the trailer below.
Lo/Hi — The Black Keys
American band The Black Keys have released nine full-length albums since forming in 2001. But ‘Lo/Hi’ marks their first release since 2014’s album Turn Blue—after which the band had turned to various side projects, including producing for artists like Imagine Dragons.
Despite the five year break, ‘Lo/Hi’ jumps straight back into the band’s old, familiar sound: the blues-y guitar riffs are rolled back out again. Though there has been no word as of yet about a new album, the single is likely to signify the arrival of more material from the celebrated group.
White Onions — Foals
This single is taken from Foals’ latest album, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1—the first of a highly anticipated double-album from the indie rockers, and their first LP since 2015’s What Went Down. So far the album has received excellent reviews, and the group have also revealed that they will be commencing a European tour in May this year—a welcome return for the festival favourites.
Flux — Ellie Goulding
‘Flux’ marks the return of English pop-star Ellie Goulding, but unlike a great deal of her hits—namely the EDM-inspired ones—this track is a raw and stripped-down piano ballad about lost love. The track will appear on Goulding’s upcoming fourth studio album, which will be her first album release since 2015’s Delirium. Expect the album later this year.
Pattern — Julian Mika
Hailing from North-West London, and born in Rome to a Sicilian mother and American father, Julian Mika is an up-and-coming talent. This latest release follows on from his debut, ‘Know To’, and fuses an afrobeat-inspired backing with some of Mika’s dark lyricism.
Mine Right Now — Sigrid
This track is taken from Norwegian pop star Sigrid’s debut LP, Sucker Punch. The album dropped last week and went straight to the top of the UK iTunes album charts upon release. Take a listen below to see what all the fuss is about!
Only Want You — Rita Ora ft. 6LACK
This latest single from British pop star Rita Ora comes after her acclaimed 2018 album Phoenix. The track features a verse-long guest appearance from US rapper 6LACK, and comes bundled with a music video that opens with Ora expressing her frustration at falsified reports about her personal life.
Strike Three — Puppet Theory
Puppet Theory are a Manchester-based indie rock band who formed back in 2015. ‘Strike Three’ is the group’s latest single, and tackles personal issues for the band—include bullying, anxiety, and depression.
Symbols of Joy & Eternity — Sundara Karma
This track is taken from indie quartet Sundara Karma’s newly released LP, Ulfilas’ Alphabet, which has been racking up a series of good reviews since its release. The band will commence their UK regional tour next month, which includes gigs in Leeds and Sheffield.
Laurel Wreath — Bear’s Den
British folk-rock duo Bear’s Den followed up the announcement of their third album, So That You Might Hear Me, due for release on 26th of April, with the release of their lead single ‘Laurel Wreath’. The album comes after their debut, Islands, and their sophomore, Red Earth and Pouring Rain.
The band tweeted that Laurel Wreath is a ‘song about vulnerability and courage and the need for connection [themes] that [will run] through the whole album’. The track is built around electric guitars and string-like synths that lend it a sense of majesty — it is an exciting appetiser for what might be expected from the new LP.
