Here are this week’s Top Ten New Tracks. Don’t forget that you can listen to even more in the Spotify playlist at the end of this article. Down there you’ll also find our email address; if you’re a musician or promoter and would like to see your music make this list, why not get in touch?

Mirror Kisser — Kississippi

Kississippi is comprised of Zoë Allaire Reynolds and Colin James Kupson, who met on the hookup application Tinder. The pair are based in Philadelphia, and their first EP, I Can Feel You In My Hair Still, was recorded in Zoë’s mother’s laundry room, solely by the female vocalist herself, before Colin joined for the second release, We Have No Future, We’re All Doomed.

This single is taken from their debut album, Sunset Blush.

Follow You — Rocky Nti

Rocky was raised in Milton Keynes by his Ghanaian parents, and his background has clearly had an influence upon his creative output; his music is a beautiful combination of West African rhythms and indie pop vibes.

This year, Rocky has been flourishing, especially after having played Glastonbury in 2016 and supporting Tom Grennan and Sundara Karma on their respective tours.

Electric Fires — Black Peaks

Mathcore outfit Black Peaks are back again with their third single release on the lead-up to their second album, All That Divides. ‘Electric Fires’ debuted on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, and promises all the complex rhythms, crazy lead lines, and anthemic sounds fans will expect and love from Black Peaks.

Frontman Will Gardener, on the topic of this song, said that “lyrically the song is a bit of a sarcastic comment on the beliefs of certain conspiracy theorists, Flat-Earthers etc. Essentially we just had fun with that idea, and wrote a song about how our Alien forefathers came here from Mars at the dawn of civilisation to build the pyramids, which, of course, 100% totally happened. Stay woke, kids.”

Milk It (Ft. Ardyn) — Bad Sounds

‘Milk It’ is the latest single from indie group Bad Sounds. This track comes from their debut album Get Better, due to be released on the 17th August. The single features guest vocals from Ardyn, alongside a dancey beat and a particularly catchy synth line.

Movin On — Paul Weller

Despite releasing his thirteenth solo LP just last year, The Modfather shows no signs of slowing down as ‘Movin On’ becomes his second single this year. The former frontman of The Jam has had a long and successful career, with his band’s first ever single, ‘In The City’, breaking the UK Top 40 when the singer was just about to turn nineteen.

Just About — Ten Ven

Ten Ven was tipped for big success by Annie Mac way back at the start of 2016, but still has a relatively small following. Nonetheless, this isn’t the first time URY’s Digital Librarians have picked him out, and he is gaining momentum fast. His collaborative EP with Alex Metric will be released at the end of August.

Give a Little — Maggie Rogers

‘Give a Little’ is American singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers’ second single of the year, and follows ‘Fallingwater’ which dropped a few months back. This single sees Rogers turn political with her pop, and it was written in April this year, on the same day the National School Walkout took to the streets to demand that the US congress tackle gun control. Naturally, then, what you can listen to below is a product of that, and draws heavily upon themes of empathy and unity.

Ritual — Deaf Havana

This is the latest single from Deaf Havana, taken from their new album RITUALS, which was released on the 3rd August and also contains their previous singles: ‘Sinner’, ‘Holy’, and ‘Hell.’ So far the band’s new pop-inspired sound has divided the opinions of fans; have a listen and decide for yourself if you like their new synth-driven work.

June — Petrie (ft. Jess)

Frontman, and one half of Petrie, George Petrie is a graduate of the BRIT school, a place where he studied film with URY’s very own Carrie Morrison. If you’re in London on the 20th September, why not grab some tickets to see him live, and catch this song and more. Tickets go on sale on Monday (6th August).

Catch Banter — Fliptrix (ft. Jammz & Capo Lee)

Premiered by Mistajam on BBC Radio 1Xtra, ‘Catch Banter’ garnered immediate support from Sian Anderson, Sir Spyro, Shortee Blitz, and MK.

Fliptrix has released an impressive 7 projects since 2007, and is also a member of the super group The Four Owls who dropped 2 of the most classic records in UK Hip Hop history: ‘Natures Greatest Mystery’ in 2011 and ‘Natural Order’ in 2015.
