Navitel is an offline application use in navigation. it helps me a lot especially when i am in the road on travel. I wanna find out what could be the improvements that needs to be done in order for it useful all the time…

Objective

Identify the pain points of navigational functions of NAVITEL.

To drive while experiencing all the functions of the application.

Test Tasks

  1. test how accurate the map
  2. saving and selecting destination
  3. display ETA and how accurate
  4. creating route
  5. check whether the cursor in the nearest places are accurate or updated
  6. looking for the location by inputting coordinates
  7. sending the current location through SMS.
  8. knowing the latitude, longtitude and altitude accuracy.
  9. knowing your dashboard(speed, odo, etc)
  10. 3d maps

Analysis

  1. Task 1: “test how accurate the map “

seems accurate to me. I've been using this app, so the place where i stand is the one actually the location on the map.

2. Task 2: “saving and selecting waypoints”

so far i have successfully saved waypoints, and selecting them would show me the direction going back to that location.

3. Task 3: “ display ETA and how accurate ”

Estimated time of arrival is displayed whenever the route start and is a success in computing the time of arrival. so far what i have experienced using this is that its accurate, it adjusts depending on the speed you are running and the road you are taking.

4. Task 4: “creating route”

same goes with creating a route, nothing seems to be the problem. i created route and pointed me to my destination. as shown to tasks before task number 4.

5. Task 5: “ check whether the cursor in the nearest places are accurate or updated ”

well the first problem appeared here at cursor. it is where establishments are registered and appeared in the map.

noticed “first naga bank” and “allied bank”, they supposedly not on the list anymore, because its been years since those banks were not in the area anymore.

6. Task 6: “ looking for the location by inputting coordinates ”

inputting coordinates in order to find a location on the map runs perfectly. no problem at all for this one.

7. Task 7:” sending the current location through SMS. ”

sending a text message that has your coordinates seems fine to me. i successfully texted the number with my current location.

well of course provided he is also using the same application, so the receiver can easily inputted the coordinates sent to through text.

maybe if the receiver has similar application that has similar function maybe he/she can locate the coordinates.

8. Task 8: “ knowing the latitude, longtitude and altitude accuracy. “

another thing cool with the application is that it can also know your altitude above sea level.

i tested it from where i stand at my house ranges 80–90m above see level.

the altimeter of the application shows 86m and that is very near the estimation we made before with the right altimeter.

9. Task 9: “ knowing your dashboard(speed, odo, etc)”

it has dashboard same with car, it records everything as shown on the picture. well i can say its also accurate, speed the distance and everything seems right…

10. Task 10: “3d map”

the map should be 3d, but it seems becoming only 3d when you move. if stationary the map looks 2d.

this one is just a little bit disappointing because when we say 3d the user expects 3d.

Findings

Design Suggestion

The only issue on this application is just update, everything almost run perfectly the only problem is the updated when it comes to the establishments that is registered to it. Frequent posting of updates and the accurate one would really help in finding businesses and establishments on the map.

i understand that the design of the application aims simplicity, but i think it would be more attractive to the application if the interface would have a little graphics that could be entertaining to user’s eyes.

other than that the whole application seems perfectly and nothing to change about it.
