HCI(sy1415–1) Usability Testing

Introduction
Kabam is an interactive entertainment company that develops and publishes massively multiplayer social games (MMSG’s), including Dragons of Atlantis: Heirs of the Dragon and Kingdoms of Camelot. Kabam makes “free-to-play” games for social networking services, its own web site, and other game sites.
Objective
Identify the pain points of of each function of kabam with the 10 tasks. How it’s works according to the perpectives of users and how we improves each function anyhow to satisfy the users.
To test these each function of kabam I need at least 5 participants ran a usability test. The only requirements for participants are follow the 10 tasks which I give to them and lets see if they get all the tasks.
Test Tasks
- Create account in kabam
- Choose username
- Update passwords
- Find the edgeworld it’s a game and click then play it
- Find earn points
- Find point balance
- Back to the home page
- Go to the facebook page
- Download mobile app games
- Download itunes
Analysis
When I conducted my usability test I prepared the things for the activity the video camera to record their doings in a website; the question for their tasks; Notes to take down important data of course pen. And I had 5 participants and I tested them all and I reviewed the video that I captured and my notes.
Participants brief Information:
- JunJun, my friend age 21 yrs old lives in naga city and loves dancing
- Celio, my friend age 22 yrs old lives in naga city and loves dancing too.
- Frank John Paul, my brother 15 yrs old and loves basketball and studied in NCF.
- Froilan, my brother again 17 yrs old also loves basketball and studied in ateneo.
- Florentino, My elder brother 21 yrs old and loves to play games and studied in Mariners Polytechnic College.
Here is the summary of my analysis through the tasks that I give to them:
Task # 1 : Create account in kabam
All the users perform well…there’s no problem with it I think it’s common to everyone to sign in using their email address☺
Task # 2 : Choose username
Like task # 1 The test was successful all the users perform well ☺
Task # 3 : Update passwords
Like task # 1 and 2 all the users again perform well☺
Task # 4 : Find the edgeworld it’s a game and click then play it
3 of the users found the edgeworld within 1 minute but the other did it within 2 minutes…

Task # 5 : Find earn points
In noticed when I ask to find earn points some of the users its like confuse how they find it they click everywhere until they click the kabam reward wherein it contains the redeem,my points,earn points, overview and FAQ and point balance which it’s small font size and not very perceptible.
Task # 6 : Find point balance
Like task # 5 I ask to find point balance since users attempted to find earn points of course anyhow they found it.

Task # 7 : Back to the home page
Since users are in page of point balance I ask to go back to the home page but the users did not know what’s going on which features they must click just to go back to the homepage they click the feature of games but users not find it until they click the word kabam and they surprise yes I GO BACK to the home page and users said it easy just turned to the home simply click the word kabam.
This image is my proposal webpage unlike before this page use the feature of kabam as home instead of word “Home” thus users do not confuse when they go back to the home page.
Task # 8 : Go to the facebook page
In this task is one of the hard tasks that the users do.I noticed they tried to find it click the games click the kabam rewards until the users down the page and they read the kabam on facebook then users click it but it didn’t work because it should be if the arrow is like a symbol hand it means it can work. Then, the users ask me there’s is facebook in kabam and I said of course there is…And just find it everywhere.Until the users click the games under the kabam on facebook and it works.

Task # 9 : Download mobile app games
In this task the users encountered a difficulties because users didn’t know how to do because in the home page of kabam there’s no feature for download so that the users undergo problems.
Task # 10 : Download Itunes
In this task the users encountered a difficulties too since kabam website is about games also the users think that they can’t download itunes but actually if they click the games and click mobile games they see the list of games and click one game and you will see the download on the app store click it and appears the itunes as a result you can download it.

Findings: 5 key Issues
Issue # 1: It needs a home page feature because in kabam website the home page is written in “kabam” instead of “Home”.
Issue # 2 : It needs a searching feature in home page thus you can access the games easily that you want to play in kabam instead of putting games feature contains list of games but it also good but the users needs to satisfy their needs it should be faster to access the games that they try to search.
Issue # 3 : It needs a feature for player info. contains like point balance, earn points, my points so that if the users wants to know their points it easily to find just click the player feature…
Issue # 4: It needs a Download feature in home page too so that the users can access the benefits of this site because in this website you can download games if you explore it click anywhere then you figure out the system of this website. Because in the home page there’s no feature for download.
Issue # 5 : It needs a feature for facebook in home page because since facebook is very popular in social networking they need to put feature to the home page so that the users didn’t encounter a problem to find the account of fb. One thing, since the owner of this site kabam, of course they trying to promote their website so its necessary to put facebook feature in home page so that instead of typing facebook in new tab they simply click it to their feature found in the home page.
This image is the home page of kabam.com as I said before to improve this webpage it needs a features which my test users use it but they encountered a little bit of difficulties…Note if the users already log in this page this image still the same except for log in replace by log out and sign in replace by welcome (choose your username).
So I suggest that the home page is look like this so that the users easily manipulate to go other pages immediately ☺Note this page is actually the users already log in.
