The Usanii “Sustaining Communities” Exhibition
The 12th and 13th of August were remarkable days for us as we hosted our first ever Art exhibition at the British Council office, Ikoyi. We had three amazing contemporary African Artists — Alabi Oladimeji, Baruwa Akinjide, and Emmanuel Dudu — exhibit their works on both days and a guest appearance in the person of Gerald Chukwuma; a renowned artist who specializes in wood panels and furniture. With an ethos of giving back, we decided to donate part of the proceeds from the exhibition to Mamamoni — a social cause dedicated to empowering poor women living in slum communities. Mamamoni provides them with different vocational skills and post-training support to help them generate livelihood income to feed, educate and sustain themselves and their children.
The 12th of August was the private viewing session targeted at selected members of society and Art lovers, whilst the 13th was the main event open to a larger audience than the previous day. For both days, the exhibition opened doors at 12 noon until 7pm. The ambiance was very relaxing as people indulged themselves to the soothing background music, a choice of fine wine, cocktail and mocktail drinks, and finger foods.

Our guest flocked in minutes after the doors opened for the day. All our exhibiting Artists were on site on both days to talk about about their pieces and answer questions by guests. The Artworks caused an uproar as those in attendance were awe-inspired by everything they saw and felt. It was indeed a sight to behold.

Some distinguished guests graced our occasion on both days not excluding the CEO of the Tony Elumelu Foundation — Parminder Vir OBE; COO of Tony Elumelu Foundation — Abimbola Adebakin; First Secretary Economic Affairs | Netherlands Representation in Lagos — Tessel Kuijten; CEO and Founder of Miliki — Patrick Koshini; Tunde Arogunmati — CEO of Toff Resources; just to mention a few.
All in all, the Exhibition served as a fun and interactive space for Art lovers.
Once again, we thank everyone who made it for the exhibition and to all our sponsors and partners, we appreciate your immense support in making this happen.
We will be sure to keep you posted on our progress.
Until next time,
Stay Awesome!
