Paris has fallen, a tragic site for the French as they watched Megan Rapinoe struck two goals, including one crucial dagger to increase the lead, to knock France out of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the quarter-finals. The game ended with the score of 2–1 to the U.S.

The U.S. started off with an early goal from a free kick by Megan Rapinoe in the 5th minute of the game. This is the third time where the U.S. has scored a goal within the first ten minutes. There was miscommunication between the French women as they’ve mistakenly let the ball slot through the defender and pass the goal. The game remained scoreless until halftime since the first goal.

It’s not until one hour later where Megan Rapinoe scores again against the keeper as she taps the ball low into the net. This goal would prove to be the dagger that won the U.S. that game. Wendie Renard would go on to score a headed goal for France in the 81st minute to reduce the deficit to one.

A key player in this match-up would definitely have to be Megan Rapinoe as she scored a brace to keep the U.S. alive in this competition.

Despite France dominating in possession, passes made and completed, total shots taken, and fewer bookings, France was unable to shoot on goal which proves to be their mistake as they’re eliminated from the World Cup.

With momentum moving forward and a historical tie to Norway of 10 wins in a row, the U.S. will be facing the Three Lions as they will be looking to break the record and reach the finals.
